Tournament: NSDA | Round: 1 | Opponent: All | Judge: All
Contention One Is Inherency:
I would like to begin with a story, a story that is hard to hear, but a story that needs to be heard. The following story, documented by Alis and Romo in 2013, explains the life of Joanna, a Mexican who was sold into the sex industry and forced into sexual labor. She is not alone. What is happening in Mexico needs to be stopped, and the first step is listening to the screams that are currently being ignored.

Joanna moves her … destroyed my life."
Joanna isn’t alone, in fact, Mexican sex trafficking has consigned almost 70,000 minors to living hell—and the problem is spreading

Joanna moves her … destroyed my life."
Contention Two is The Harms:
Just like Joanna, an untold number of men, women, and children are being trafficked in the status quo via the US-Mexico border—A bilateral partnership is critical to curve the current crimes against humanity that are being committed on the border
GARZA 2011 (Rocio, Candidate for Juris Doctor, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, May 2011; A.B. (2005) Harvard University, CARDOZO J. OF INT’L and COMP. LAW, March, www.cjicl.com/uploads/2/9/5/9/2959791/cjicl_19.2_garza_note.pdf?)
On any given … a bilateral partnership.
Mexico is the prior question—they’re a global hotspot for sex trafficking, hosting the transport for multiple victims from many countries. Cracking down on hotspots makes it so that people like Joanna can stop facing the horrors they are facing today.
Department of State, 13 (U.S. Department of State, 2013, “Trafficking in Persons Report 2013” http://www.state.gov/j/tip/rls/tiprpt/2013/index.htm)
Mexico is a … a serious problem.
Victims of trafficking experience horrific forms of dehumanization, and it is of the utmost importance to put this dehumanization to a halt as quickly as possible.
Crouse ’07 (Janice, PhD, Senior Fellow at the Beverly LaHaye Institute, the think tank for Concerned Women for America, “Sex Trafficking Victims: Disposable or Human”, July 12, 2007, http://www.cwfa.org/articledisplay.asp?id=13418, SG)
We have all … for all citizens.
The government must take action—inaction is complicit with the crimes that are happening against the victims which exist in the US-Mexico border. Not taking action allows for these acts of dehumanization to continue occurring, leaving no space for victims to be relieved of their captivity.
HRW, 02 (Human Rights Watch, “Trafficking of Migrant Women for Forced Prostitution into Greece”, 2002 – no date given, last ate cited, http://www.hrw.org/legacy/backgrounder/eca/greece/greece_memo_back.htm)
All governments have … third country resettlement. (10)
Thus, Haley and I support the following plan text that: The United States federal government should substantially increase its bilateral economic assistance for human trafficking response towards Mexico.
Contention Three is The Solvency:
A US-Mexico partnership reduces human trafficking and send a signal to get others on board--
Garza 11 Candidate for Juris Doctor, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, AB from Harvard (Rocio, 11/1/11, "Addressing Human Trafficking Along the United States-Mexico Border: The Need for a Bilateral Partnership," http://www.cjicl.com/uploads/2/9/5/9/2959791/cjicl_19.2_garza_note.pdf)
Victims on both …in human trafficking.
Modern sex trafficking affects millions of oppressed persons worldwide—we need to act both via legislation and have discussions about trafficking
Shahinian, 13 – Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Forms of Slavery, United Nations (Gulnara, April 26, 2013, “Slavery must be recognised in all its guises,” The Guardian, http://www.guardian.co.uk/global-development/poverty-matters/2013/apr/26/slavery-recognised-all-guises, Hensel)
¶ Five years ago, … longer an option.
Structural violence is the first thing that needs to be weighed in this debate round, so that stories like Joanna’s are not disregarded in place of improbable impact scenarios.
